This age-old method of firing ceramic wares has become a rare alternative to the modern electric and gas firing techniques used today. Students bury their art pieces in a brick pit\, pile wood and other combus tibles on top\, and light the entire mess on fire. While 20-foot flames ma ke for great entertainment\, the actual purpose of this alternative firing method is the intricate surface treatment that can be achieved no other w ay. This beloved Eagle Ridge tradition\, started in 2009\, is an opportuni ty for Eagle Ridge students and staff to come together to experience truth \, goodness\, and beauty.

Long and short-sleeved shirts are permitted. Shirts ar e not to be tied back with elastic bands but may be untucked. No strapless \, spaghetti straps\, or sleeveless tops are permitted.
Swe atpants and jeans are permitted\; however\, jeans with immodest rips are n ot. Leggings and yoga pants can only be worn with modest shirts\, tunics\, shorts\, and skirts. Skirt and shorts length should be modest\, and no mo re than 2” above the knee.
All shoes must have backs. Boo ts are permitted. Heels should be no more than 1”.
Any lo gos on clothing must be school appropriate.
Costumes and Ha lloween masks should not be worn.

Battle of the Books is a fun\, frie
ndly\, and free reading challenge sponsored by Eagle Ridge Academy's autho
rizer\, Friends of Education (FOE)!
Registered students in grades 3
-5 at Eagle Ridge Academy of Minnetonka will receive a list of books to re
ad for the “battle”. Students are put onto teams\, and they will coord
inate reading the books on the list. Each member must read a minimum of SI
X of the TWELVE books on the list. Individuals who want to increase their
team’s chances of winning will read more books. The titles usually inclu
de one graphic novel\, one picture book\, and ten chapter books in a varie
ty of genres and lengths. (The titles are chosen by the school that won th
e competition last year.) The competition questions are centered around de
tails from each book.
The TOP EIGHT teams in Round 1 will go on to
Round 2 and will be given another set of 12 books. The winning team of Rou
nd 2 will go on to the final round competing with other FOE schools in May
!
The books may be checked out from the ERA Library. Please also fe
el free to check out the books from your local library. Students may have
the opportunity to meet with some of their teammates in the library leadin
g up to competitions.

A ll students in grades 4-8 are eligible. Our school bee winner will have th e opportunity to compete against other regional schools for the challenge and privilege of representing our school in Washington D.C. this spring. < /span>
A copy of the grade-level word list was given to yo
ur student before Fall Break. Encourage your student to study the words in
preparation for the classroom written bee\, which will be taken in Study
Hall the week of November 16.They do NOT need to memorize the word def
initions. Based on the classroom written be\, we will determine the t
op 15-20 spellers each grade. Those students will be notified and they can
start preparing for the grade-level bee. The grade-level bee will be oral
and will be held in the School Library during the week of December 14.
The top SIX spellers from the grade-level bee will ad
vance to our School Spelling Bee on Friday\, January 22. The school bee wi
ll begin with the combined list for grades 4-8 and move to an unpublished
list. ONE speller will move on to the regional bee in February!
This is an amazing opportunity for the students and it is rea
lly a team effort. Consider taking a moment as a family to share your favo
rite words and talk about the importance and delight of having a rich voca

Long and short-sleeved shirts are permitted. Shirts ar e not to be tied back with elastic bands but may be untucked. No strapless \, spaghetti straps\, or sleeveless tops are permitted.
Swe atpants and jeans are permitted\; however\, jeans with immodest rips are n ot. Leggings and yoga pants can only be worn with modest shirts\, tunics\, shorts\, and skirts. Skirt and shorts length should be modest\, and no mo re than 2” above the knee.
All shoes must have backs. Boo ts are permitted. Heels should be no more than 1”.
