As students progress through the upper elementary and middle grades\, the demands of reading shift from learning to read to reading to learn. However\, many st udents continue to struggle with word recognition and language comprehensi on\, impacting their overall literacy success. This session will explore t he science of reading and how to scaffold instruction to meet the needs of students in grades 4-8. Participants will gain practical\, evidence-based instructional routines to support students in word recognition\, includin g multisyllabic word reading\, morphology\, and fluency\, as well as strat egies for strengthening language comprehension through vocabulary\, text s tructure\, and knowledge-building.
