Subject: Safety Drill Completed Successfully
Hello. This is Kaine Kelly, Superintendent of the Randolph Central School District.
I want to let our families know that the District has successfully completed today’s statewide school safety drill and there is no emergency at our schools.
As part of today’s exercise, both buildings practiced emergency response procedures followed by an early off-campus evacuation. Our students and staff did an excellent job, and the exercise was completed safely and smoothly.
I want to thank our students and families for their cooperation, as well as our faculty, staff, transportation department, local law enforcement, and emergency responders for their partnership in helping keep Randolph Central a safe place to learn.
I also want to use today’s drill as an opportunity to remind families of the important role you play during an actual school emergency.
If a real emergency were to occur, we would ask parents and guardians not to come to the school unless directed to do so by the District. Keeping the roads and entrances around our campus clear allows police, fire, EMS, and other emergency personnel to respond without unnecessary congestion.
We would also ask families to avoid calling the school or repeatedly contacting students by cell phone during an active emergency. Keeping communication systems available is important, and students may be instructed to silence or power down their phones depending upon the circumstances.
In an actual emergency, the District would communicate directly with families through our parent notification system and provide instructions regarding reunification or student pickup as soon as it is safe to do so.
Exercises like today’s give us an opportunity to practice our procedures and identify areas where we can continue to improve. Our District safety team will review today’s exercise and make any appropriate adjustments.
Thank you again for your cooperation and your continued support of our schools and students.
